NEW DEPTHS:
A JOURNEY OF INTEGRATION
AND
TRANSFORMATION

From:  Susan Skye, founder of New Depths
Date:  14 July 2011

Dear Friends,

I am excited to announce the 2012 New Depths intensive residential program to begin in June of 2012.

As a result of the amazing breakthroughs in brain research, we now fully understand how we humans end up in patterns of pain and dissatisfaction, why relationships fail, why we suffer from upsets, addictions, anxiety, and depression.

I have found myself fascinated by the immense possibilities that this has opened up for human healing and happiness.

New Depths is designed to give you the information and process work to clear unconscious emotional reactivity and negative thought patterns.

New Depths will provide the map, the guidelines and, very importantly, a level of individual and group process work that is new to most and transformational to all.

The work of Nonviolent Communication is very aligned with the new research, though it has lacked the full map.  New Depths will provide a clear map, and a depth of both empathy and conceptual clarity that will give each participant the opportunity for the kind of (at last!) stable, integrated healing we have so longed for.

This is an opportunity to master your own emotional well being, to heal old damage and build new pathways in your brain – literally!

It is shocking, but real, to know that the trauma and neglect in childhood actually results in physical brain damage.

It is empowering to know that we can literally physically change and heal our brains!

It is also shocking to know how very, very critical loving yourself is to healing yourself – not the words ‘love’ or compassion’, but the inner experience.

The Inner Dialogue Process, created by Susan, works with young, even nonverbal child parts and allows us to free self expression and authenticity from their prison of fear and hiding and learn to love these parts of ourselves which have lived decades alone and unloved.  We simply have not known how to do this before.

During the first year of this program we have had dramatic success in working with addictions like overeating, with emotional reactivity, with healing old disempowering traumas and with dissolving negative beliefs.

And yet to be mindful: nothing is a silver bullet.  Inner transformation requires readiness, intention and persistence.

I am teaming with Sarah Peyton, who is extremely knowledgeable with the brain research and NVC, to create and offer this year of depth work.  We have planned a program that not only brings us together for three week-long meetings, but also provides for regular ongoing connection and learning every single month.

You will find information about the content and logistics for the intensive following this letter.  I hope you will consider joining us.

   With love and anticipation,
   Susan Skye

CONTENT of NEW DEPTHS

Our time together will be a combination of experiential and inner process work, conceptual learning, breathing and mediation, and small group work.  Some topic areas will include:

The Map of Human Wellbeing
  • The nine characteristics of a healthy brain
  • How we can heal and rebuild brain patterns resulting from childhood pain and impoverishment
  • How to track the process of our own integration

The Limbic Alarm System – how we get hijacked:
  • How our early upbringing sets up our adult patterns of reactivity, triggers and upsets
  • The relationship of empathy and our emotional alarm system
  • How to use breath to calm and regulate the limbic system.
  • How to create emotional self regulation

Working with Childhood Trauma:
  • Understanding how neglect, lack of attuned parenting and/or abuse damages our brains
  • Identify and learn to connect with non-integrated energies within us
  • Practice the Inner Parts Dialogue created by Susan to actually move into compassionate dialogue with parts we have resisted or tried to get rid of.

Working with Addictive Behaviors:
  • How these behaviors result from early brain impairment
  • Confronting the void within
  • Understanding the tremendous impact and power of empathy and compassion on reshaping the brain in ways that serve our authenticity and self expression.

Creating Internal Systems Integration And Partnership:
  • Connecting with disconnected parts or energies that are    often the foundation of reactions and behaviors
  • Relating in a whole, new way to those frightened or lost energies we refer to as “jackal”
  • Creating a coherent narrative of our life

Deepening Our Capacity For Intimacy – Emotional And Sexual.
  • Healing dysfunctional relationship patterns stemming from abuse and neglect of the past
  • Learn the basics of the four relationship patterns how we behave in relationships
  • The neurobiology of sex and intimacy

All of our work will, of course, be in the context of needs, empathy, and honesty. We will devote lots of attention to staying connected with the flow of life-energy as we speak of our needs, met or not yet met.
